do me a favor? can you grab the backpack under the floorboards in the hall closet and the belt on the back of the door and bring them to me in excelsior
( jason sends over an approximate address: a dark alleyway in excelsior. he's - leaning up against the wall of one of the nearby buildings, intentionally planted within a shadow that's flickering around the edges. his bike's parked a few feet away, and there's blood splattered on the pavement. there had been a fight, but the assholes involved on the other side are long gone. )
Thought about bringing Dickie. Light's his thing. ( thought about asking kyle to go, too, but he's not bringing that up. because neither is a great idea; they need people here to handle everything else going on. he needs someone to watch kyle, and someone to watch dickie. a loose lift of his shoulder, and he reaches a hand out to take the bag. )
Glowsticks and rechargable flashlights're in the bag. ( and with the hand he doesn't have out for the bag, he reaches into his jacket. pulls out the marble kyle'd given him. ) Got firestarters, NREs, a few water bottles, extra gear - should be fine.
[ should be. by that logic, bruce should be fine. kyle's still convinced bruce can pull himself out of it. when has he not? but there's no reason to take that chance.
and jason is taking it. the marble will help kyle track him if the rope gets loose. a hundred scenarios running through his head and none of them help so kyle throttles them. ]
( if jason knew how it worked, he wouldn't be worried. wouldn't be standing in the same shadow bruce disappeared into, intentionally making sure it doesn't go anywhere as the moon slowly makes its way across the sky. he doesn't know if it matters where bruce went in, doesn't know if he even went anywhere. if they're lucky, jason's freaking out over nothing and the moment he goes through, he'll pop back out in bruce's underground hideout where he's ignoring everyone else because he's busy being bitchy.
if they're not--well. jason's gotten out of worse before. he's no scott free, but nothing's managed to keep him down yet.
so he throws the backpack over a shoulder, and offers out the marble. )
Keep an eye on Tim and Dickie for me, will you? ( grumbling a little under his breath, ) An' here I was giving B shit for giving all the brats abandonment issues.
[ kyle turns the marble over in his hand for a moment, concentrating. the marble twists into shape, taking the form into a ring. a green lantern's ring. it seems to gleam brightly as kyle focuses on it, eyes closed. finally, he opens them once more before holding the ring out for jason. ]
jason - looks at it for a moment, but does reach out to take it. doesn't shove it back into his jacket, but instead slides it onto his middle finger. )
I'm not accepting this as a proposal, y'know. You're gonna need to at least get down on your knees for that. Bring some flowers, a horse-drawn chariot.
( kyle smiles, and jason offers an easy grin in response. leans into the hug before he's curling fingers in against the nape of kyle's neck, pulling him into a soft kiss. keeps him close for a moment. )
I'll be back before you know it. Just gotta grab that idiot and drag him on back from wherever the hell he's gotten himself stuck. Won't even notice I'm gone.
( fingers grip onto kyle's wrist even as he lets go, pulling him in close for a moment so jason can press their foreheads together. takes a deep breath. )
[ kyle knows that. he knows. and yet he searches for the ring's pulse, lets it settle over his heard before he nods, leaning against jason for a moment. ]
Go. I'll be here.
[ he also generates a rope for jason to tie around his waist. ]
( he takes the nod as a good of a sign as he's going to get to know kyle'll be fine. takes the rope and laces it around his waist, before he's taking a step back, deeper into the shadow. )
This thing actually work? ( it's with a cheeky grin, raising the hand with the lantern ring on it. ) Hope I don't have to remember the damn code, cause I sure as hell wasn't listening to you or Jordan whenever you'd go off. What was it? In the brightest nigh--
( his boot sinks into the shadow, and the rest of jason follows after it - sinking deep into the expanding shadow along with the rope until whatever jason had opened under him simply closes. the rope breaks, and anything unnatural about the shadow fades. )
[ the rope snaps and he hurriedly tries to pull it back but it's too late. the shadow has vanished and there's no trace of it. no trace of jason. his breathing stutters and the panic nearly sets in.
he has to be patient. he has to wait. he has to — ion rumbles in his chest, beckoning. turn it off, turn it away.
kyle doesn't. he paces for a bit. waits. he has little else to do. eventually, he knows he'll have to leave. see to the others. be a green lantern.

[ he can't say that. even if he'd want to. the fear settles in him and kyle does his best to breathe it out. ]
Can we attach a rope or something? Like a bungee?

Went in here. Other guy came out over there, ( and a gesture, off to the side. )
